David Renggli

David Renggli's artistic practice spans across various mediums, including sculpture, painting, and collage. Renggli
reflects his depth of knowledge in art history, as he intricately weaves it into his works.

In 2015, Renggli developed his signature technique with the Desire Paintings, an ongoing series of works. The artist first paints a background wood panel with abstract forms in various colors, then juxtaposes it with a jute net in the front, on which he paints different colorful shapes. The overlapping of both surfaces creates a three-dimensional depth with interesting optical sensations. The paintings combine the aesthetics of decorative interior design and challenge the tradition of modernist abstract art, while referencing it ironically. Renggli uses jute netting material found on the side of mountains in Switzerland to prevent mud and rock slides.

David Renggli was born in Zurich in 1974 and currently resides there.

can be seen until July 12, 2020 in Villa Merkel, Gallery of the City of Esslingen.

David Renggli's work is permeated with humor, poetry or even musicality and is shown in the form of sculptures such as brightly colored scarecrows that appear in the form of lying fairground figures, gongs that decorate the walls like moon disks or extensive artist signatures that are basically nothing or designate the room at most. In addition, there are examples of his conceptual painting, such as the series of SUV paintings shown for the first time in Esslingen, in which David Renggli responds with a wink to the more and more widespread forms of road traffic, or his network images that build productive bridges to the history of Sculpture and sculpture. David Renggli also designs complex inter-media productions,
