NEVIN ALADAG
Jamming
Schwartzsche Villa, Berlin
08.09.2023 – 03.03.2024

The work of internationally working artist Nevin Aladağ combines music and sound as well as social references, everyday objects and abstract ornamentation in a refreshing way.

Her exhibition titled Jamming at Schwartz's Villa includes the video installation of the same name from 2022, which celebrates its German premiere in the Gründerzeit Villa in Steglitz. It is a musical-filmic portrait of Berlin. Aladağ humorously interweaves the various sounds of musical instruments, such as the jingling wreath, tambourine, clarinet or trombone, into a cinematic homage encompassing both East and West Berlin around her place of residence in Mitte.

Further, works from the series Social Fabric, Pattern Kinship and Color Floating will be shown in the Schwartz Villa. They emphasize the domestic atmosphere of Carl Schwartz's former summer residence and create an aesthetic space that combines the random and playful, whether sound, space or object. The artist questions social roles in society on a global scale. In her work, the artist reflects on different forms and practices, artistically appropriating found objects. Thus, the wall pieces made of carpet or abstract ornaments refer to her exploration of aesthetics and appropriation of the everyday.
