Die Befreiung der Form. Barbara Hepworth – Meisterin der Abstraktion im Spiegel der Zeit
Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg

Tree stumps, large blocks of marble and limestone - the materials of a petite woman who struck her artistic vision directly into the material. In the 1930s, Barbara Hepworth was an exceptional figure in the male-dominated world of sculpture. Today, with her elegant, organic abstractions, she is one of the most important and pioneering sculptors of her time. Her work continues to inspire a younger generation of artists today. This is reflected in multimedia, partly performative works by contemporary artists such as Nevin Aladağ, Julian Charrière or Claudia Comte.
