Mariechen Danz Book Launch & Record Release
In celebration of the book launch and record release of Clouded in Veins, an artist talk between Mariechen Danz and Silke Hohmann takes place at the DISTANZ Showroom on Friday, 8 October, from 7 to 9 pm. The talk will be held in German.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Mariechen Danz’s art takes the (im)possibilities of communication and knowledge transfer as its starting point, placing the human body at the center of her practice. In her installations, drawings and performances, Danz probes the expressive capabilities and limitations of language, the legibility of signifiers and their hierarchical systems. Danz’s artistic discourse insistently encircles the role of subjectivity and objectivity in scientific history and alternative forms of human understanding alike.
The catalogue Clouded in Veins documents Danz’s sprawling solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Recklinghausen as part of the 2021 Ruhrfestspiele. With texts by Malte Roloff, Angelika Stepken and Susanne Witzgall.
ABOUT THE RECORD
Together with Lithuanian artist, producer and composer Gediminas Žygus, Clouded in Veins collects, collates, re-records and reconstructs the sound from a series of performances and installations. The album is conceptually rooted in Clouded in Veins: A Subjective Geography, presented at the 57th Venice Biennale, the final result is a track listing of updated reinterpretations and features fragments of songs and sonics from several activations. Repetition and iteration is key to Danz’s work, following the inherent distortions and defects of oral histories and the bodies that transmit them over time. The album is released by Monkeytown Records, Berlin.
Please note this event has limited capacity and requires all attendees to present their vaccination status, show a current negative test, or a proof of recovery upon entry. For contact tracking, please use the Luca or Corona-Warn app.
