HICHAM BERRADA
Exhibition for the Nominees for the Marcel Duchamp Prize 2020
Centre Pompidou, Paris
07.10.2020 – 05.04.2021

The Gallery is pleased to announce that artist Hicham Berrada has been nominated for the prestigious Marcel Duchamp Prize 2020 alongside fellow artists, Alice Anderson, Kapwani Kiwanga, Enrique Ramriez.

The winner will be announced on October 19th 2020, and be honoured with a solo show at the Centre Pompidou in Paris that will run until January 4 2021.

Hicham Berrada, born 1986 in Casablanca (Morocco) lives and works in Rouboix (France).
The work of Berrada weaves an elaborate tapestry between science and poetry. They make use of scientific parameters to reveal the universal magic of out daily lives, intricately choreographing a complex dance between chemical particles and physical reactions. It is not about a representation of nature, but rather about nature being present and active in the majority of his works.

The artist employs a variety of media from photography, video and sculpture to installations and performance (which he nicknames “chemical activations”). He has reinterpreted the fundamentals of painting: the bare canvas is reality while the paint and brush are the physical elements.
