Since the early twentieth century, abstract painting has been understood as a break between classical modernism and traditional painting. This gave rise to a new tradition, which also finds its own independent forms of expression in contemporary art. Jenny Brosinski represents a special and important position in today's generation of abstract painters with her unique combination of expressivity and minimalism. Her painting is a free decision-making process without any determining representationalism. She uses oil paint, charcoal and graphite in her paintings. As she does not prime the paintings, the raw canvas also plays a role as a medium. What Jenny Brosinski really loves about painting ‘are the unexpected twists and turns and the inexplicable’. The paintings in the exhibition are accompanied by ceramic sculptures she has created.
