Nevin Aladag has been awarded the Kurt Schwitters Preis 2026

Award
We are delighted to announce that Nevin Aladag has been awarded the Kurt Schwitters Prize 2026, endowed with €30,000. The Niedersächsische Sparkassenstiftung [Lower Saxony Savings Bank Foundation] award includes a solo exhibition at the Sprengel Museum Hanover, scheduled for autumn 2026.

Aladag's artistic practice often begins with everyday objects, situations, and actions. By removing these objects from their original context, she alters their interpretation, revealing hidden ideological and political connotations. Music, dance, and play—as expressions of cultural identity—form another central theme in her work.

Born in 1972 in Van, Turkey, Aladag grew up in Stuttgart and studied sculpture under Olaf Metzel at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1994 to 2000. She currently resides in Berlin and has been a professor of interdisciplinary artistic work at the Dresden University of Fine Arts since 2019.

She participated in various biennials, including documenta 14 in Kassel and Athens, the 57th Venice Biennale, the 11th Sharjah Biennial, the 11th Istanbul Biennial, and the 8th Taipei Biennial.

Notable solo exhibitions include SCAD Museum, Savannah, US | Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg, DE | Hayward Gallery, London, UK | SFMOMA, San Francisco, US | Mönchehaus Museum, Goslar, DE | Kestnergesellschaft, Hanover, DE | Sammlung Philara, Düsseldorf, DE | Albertinum.
