Overview

Britta Thie (b. 1987 in Minden, Germany, lives and works in Berlin, Germany) studied at Kunstakademie Münster and the Cooper Union of Science and Art New York and graduated from the Universität der Künste Berlin. Thie is an interdisciplinary artist exploring the complex terrain of contemporary visual culture. Her acclaimed video and multimedia works examine the creation and consumption of highly stylized imagery. Conversely, her photo-realistic paintings contemplate the critical yet often unseen internal structure of moving image production in popular entertainment.

Britta Thie has had solo exhibitions at numerous international institutions, including; Deichtorhallen, Hamburg; Leopold-Hoesch-Museum, Düren; Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt; Schinkel Pavillon, Berlin; Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach; Kunstverein Göttingen and Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden. She has also participated in group exhibitions various institutions, including; Bundeskunsthalle Bonn; Villa Merkel, Esslingen; Public Art Fund, New York; MOCA, Toronto; Mumok, Vienna; Bundeskunsthalle Bonn; KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin; Anthology Film Archives, New Yor; Kestner Gesellschaft, Hanover; Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Frankfurt; Julia Stoschek Collection, Berlin; Kunsthalle Osnabrück and National Gallery of Denmark, Copenhagen. Thie's works have been acquired by renowned collections, including; Julia Stoschek Collection Berlin; The Federal Collection of Contemporary Art, Bonn; Public Collection of Museumsverein Mönchengladbach; NRW Kornelimünster; Collection Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium, Vestfossen; Collection Catharina Svanborg, Malmö; Collection Trevor McFedries, Miami; Collection Eva Gödel, Tomorrow is Another Day, Düsseldorf; JPH Collection, Munich.
