Obama came in with such hope and plans, and of course, he was unable to accomplish very much. So the "unfinished" drawing is perfect for a man who is moving from the present into history without fulfilling his promise. It also has a relationship to a very famous unfinished portrait of our first president, Washington. Of course, with anything regarding Obama and the presidency/american history, issues regarding race and our originating sin of slavery are part of this work.
