Nevin Aladağ | Vibrating Images
Past exhibition
Overview
WENTRUP is thrilled to present Nevin Aladağ's sixth solo exhibition with the gallery at the 20th edition of Gallery Weekend Berlin. Under the title Vibrating Images, the artist presents her latest series of the same name, providing an indication as to the nature of her works; they are vibrating pictures creating a hybrid between painting, sculpture and instrument. Harp strings, drums and chimes are embedded into the rectangular wooden bodies on which the artist paints organic color fields.
The Vibrating Images follow the tradition of Aladağ's well-known Resonator and Music Room series and can be seen as their continuation. While these earlier works had more of a sculptural character, the artist understands the new pieces as paintings and reliefs in which musical instruments from various genres are brought together. By activating the instruments, the works begin to vibrate and, in this way, create their very own language. But even in their silent form, the works already emit a feeling that is close to a pulse or a reverberation by the arrangement of the strings, and their placement across the amorphous color fields. During Gallery Weekend, the works will be brought to life with a performance in which musicians interact with the instruments.
