Gregor Hildebrandt b. 1974
Gregor Hildebrandt started his ongoing photographic series of “Reflections” in 2009. Each work is completed through the same process: the artist places a subject in front of one of his “mirror paintings,” which are black monochromes made of VHS tape. Then, he photographs the object's reflection onto the dark glossy tapes. The “Reflections” generally refer to subjects, which are recurrent in the history of painting, such as portraits and still life. The completed work is a digital print on aluminum, and each print is framed in a unique brown frame with a fine green edge.
